Paramount Pictures has just released its list of Golden Globe nominations and other film awards, both nominated for and already awarded, for its stable of 2009 releases.

Jason Reitman’s film UP IN THE AIR has scored six major Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Reitman), Best Screenplay (Reitman and Sheldon Turner), Best Actor for George Clooney as well as nods for both actresses, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, who featured in the 5 Best Supporting Actress nominations.


The nominations follow a great week for the comedy drama on the awards circuit. The American Film Institute (AFI) named it one of the Top 10 Films of 2009; The Washington DC Area Film Critics Association awarded UP IN THE AIR Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor for Clooney; it received Best Screenplay from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, where it was also the runner-up for Best Film and Best Supporting Actress (Anna Kendrick); Clooney was named Best Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle; the St Louis Film Critics gave the film 6 nominations – matching those from the Golden Globes; and the 15th Critics’ Choice Awards awarded it 8 nominations – again matching the 6 Golden Globe nominations, plus naming it for Best Acting Ensemble and Best Editing.


Paramount’s Boxing Day release THE LOVELY BONES, directed by Peter Jackson and based on the best selling book by Alice Sebold, garnered a nomination for Stanley Tucci in the Best Supporting Actor category. The drama also received 6 nominations for the Critics’ Choice Awards: Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan); Best Supporting Actor (Tucci), Best Young Actor/Actress (Ronan), Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects. It also received 4 nominations from the St Louis Film Critics – for Ronan, Tucci, Visual Effects and as ‘Most Original, Innovative or Creative Film’.

The critically acclaimed BROKEN EMBRACES directed by Pedro Almodovar and starring Penelope Cruz, received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. BROKEN EMBRACES opens in cinemas tomorrow and has received rave reviews:

Carey Mulligan received a Best Actress nomination for her performance as Jenny in AN EDUCATION. Directed by Lone Scherfig and based on a memoir by Lynn Barber, with the screenplay written by Nick Hornby, AN EDUCATION is in cinemas now.

Martin Scorsese, whose next film SHUTTER ISLAND opens in cinemas on February 18, will be awarded the Cecil B DeMille Award at The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards held in Los Angeles on January 17.
