True Grit trailer just released by Paramount
September 30th 2010 06:25
Hi there cowboy fans, well, western movie fans, well maybe not the 1950's and 1960's style of Saturday matinee western, but more along the lines of Unforgiven which, until now, I felt was the ultimate in westerns, one that told it like it was, dirty, dangerous and downright nasty! LOVED IT!
True Grit is a Coen brothers remake of the John Wayne original, which wasn't too bad a flick, I distantly recall (hazilyy recall), but Wayne was a character you either loved or loathed, and I loved him. (He did win the Oscar for his role!)
This film has had quite a remake and spin off adaption history actually;
True Grit (1969) with John Wayne as the Marshall,
Rooster Cogburn (1975) John Wayne,
True Grit (1978) (TV) with Warren Oates in the Marshall role.
I only recall the original John Wayne film.
Now, True Grit (2010) will star Jeff Bridges as the Marshall, which I think is an excellent choice.
This current era version, directed by the Coens, is going to be different to all previously, as the Coens adaption, from the original novel by Charles Portis, is more faithful to the novel.
The Coens have created a film as seen from the perspective of the murdered man's 14 year old daughter, Mattie Ross, played by Hailee Steinfeld.
Going on the Coen brothers track record so far, this film should entertain, thrill and make one ponder more than any previous version.
Will it topple Unforgiven from my best of all westerns list? Time will tell...
Looking forward to it!

Shows promise but we will see. I'm one of those who declares The Wild Bunch greatest of all time.
Wonder what ever happened to that Coen Brother's spaghetti western that i reported on back in 2007? Now that would be cool.

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
yes I loved the Wild Bunch too, but felt Unforgiven trod new ground in realism...but admit I would have to watch Wild Bunch again, it's been a long, long time since I've seen it..
What was that Coen Bros western?
And I'll check your review out too.
cheers
