Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most iconic actors of Indian cinema, known for his powerful performances and towering screen presence. Born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, India, he is the son of renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan.

Early life of Bachchan

Bachchan had a passion for acting from an early age and pursued it despite his father’s wishes for him to become an engineer. He started his career in the film industry as a voice narrator for the film “Bhuvan Shome” in 1969. His first film as an actor was “Saat Hindustani” in 1969, which earned him his first National Film Award for Best Newcomer.

Bachchan’s breakthrough role came in the film “Zanjeer” in 1973, where he played the lead role of Inspector Vijay Khanna. The film was a huge success and established him as the “angry young man” of Indian cinema. He went on to deliver several iconic performances in films like “Deewar,” “Sholay,” “Amar Akbar Anthony,” and “Coolie,” among others.’

Mishap With Bachchan

In the 1980s, Bachchan suffered a near-fatal accident while filming “Coolie,” which left him in a critical condition for several months. However, he made a miraculous recovery and returned to the screen with a renewed energy and enthusiasm. He continued to deliver memorable performances in films like “Kabh Kushi Kabhi Gham” with Shahrukh Khan “Shahenshah,” “Agneepath,” “Hum,” and “Khuda Gawah.”

Bachchan has also made a mark in the world of television, hosting several seasons of the popular game show “Kaun Banega Crorepati.” He has also lent his voice to several documentaries, advertisements, and Bollywood songs.

Bachchan As Social Worker

Apart from his acting career, Bachchan is also known for his philanthropic work. He has supported several causes, including polio eradication, tuberculosis awareness, and child nutrition. He was also appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Polio Eradication in India in 2005.

Awards Win By Bachchan

Bachchan has won several accolades throughout his career, including four National Film Awards for Best Actor and fifteen Filmfare Awards. In 1984, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, and was later awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015, two of India’s highest civilian honors.
